This ballet class is more than just a dance class: it's learning patience, teamwork, and discipline of the body and mind. It's creating beautiful, graceful human beings. Ballet serves as a backbone for many other styles of dance and is based on techniques that have been developed over centuries. The purpose of ballet is to utilize music and dance to recount stories.
Ballet requires learning discipline at a young age. Parents can help me teach this etiquette by being on time for class. As the dancer curtsies or bows at the beginning and end of class, they show respect and celebrate ballet's tradition of elegance. In addition, dancers need to keep their voices down and wear the proper dance attire with their hair pulled back. If a child looks like a dancer, they will act like a dancer.
While dancers are young, it's important to learn how to dance creatively. My goal is to nurture this creativity and imagination, and as such, I base each month on a different theme with different dances and choreography incorporated into each class. I look forward to helping my students practice proper etiquette, nurture their creativity, and of course, learn the beautiful movements of ballet.
